FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Professional supply, installation, and maintenance of fire extinguishers across Cornwall. Ensure your business remains fully compliant with UK fire safety legislation.
UK Fire Safety Legislation
Navigating fire safety laws can be complex. We help commercial landlords, employers, and managing agents meet their legal obligations under current regulations.
Regulatory Reform Order 2005
The primary legislation for non-domestic premises. The "Responsible Person" is legally required to conduct risk assessments, install appropriate equipment, and ensure all units are maintained in efficient working order.
Fire Safety Act 2021
Building upon previous legislation, this act clarifies the responsibilities for managing fire safety equipment within multi-occupancy and mixed-use buildings, enforcing stricter compliance.
BS 5306 Standards
We strictly adhere to the BS 5306 code of practice. This covers the correct selection and positioning (Part 8), routine servicing (Part 3), and professional recharging (Part 9) of all units.
Types of Fire Extinguishers
Selecting the correct extinguisher for specific fire risks is crucial. Using the wrong type can be dangerous and ineffective.

Maintenance Requirements
Monthly Visual Inspections
Staff or designated personnel must perform monthly checks to confirm units haven't been discharged, lack physical damage (dents, missing pins), and show the correct pressure gauge readings.
Annual Professional Service
Our certified engineers perform an exhaustive yearly service. We check the extinguisher's weight, inspect internal mechanisms, and replace worn components as necessary.
Extended Overhaul
Water, foam, and powder units require a full discharge test and internal inspection every 5 years (10 years for CO₂). Often, replacing older units is a more cost-effective solution for small businesses.
Installation & Guidelines
Positioning Rules (BS 5306-8)
- Under 4kg: Mounted with handle 1.5m above the floor.
- Over 4kg: Mounted with handle 1m above the floor.
- Must be securely wall-mounted or placed on a dedicated stand.

Important Warning: PFOA Foam
From 4th July 2025, any fire extinguisher containing PFOA ("C8") foam will be strictly illegal to operate, test, or service within the UK. Contact us to upgrade your non-compliant units safely.
